VANTABLACK (live)

Text by Hassan Nazareth (USA), staged reading Haus der Berliner Festspiele: Stückemarkt 2019, Berlin

With his text "VANTABLACK", Nazareth Hassan addresses the question of what would happen if the reparations promised in the 19th century were actually paid out to all Afro-Americans in the middle of the 21st century and each of them the promised 40 acres of land as well would be awarded a mule. In doing so, Hassan creates a kind of vignette dramaturgy that tries to spotlight whether - and if how - the power relations between black and white citizens in the USA would change against this background. Would the way of loving, of living, of working and of communicating change? In “VANTABLACK” Nazareth Hassan combines political utopia with personal experience and thus finds a special, polyphonic narrative style.
